Documents

Overview

Documents is Attive’s workspace document library. It’s where teams organize files into folders, search across content, and make documents available as grounding context for Chat and Agents.

Usage

General usage

  • Create folders to keep documents organized and easy to reuse.
  • Upload documents so they can be searched and referenced in Chat.
  • Search across all folders to quickly find the right source material.

Managing folders and documents

Documents are organized into folders. Folders help you control visibility, organization, and default context.

  • Folder scope

    • Private folders: owned by an individual.
    • Workspace folders: shared across the workspace.
    • System folders: managed by Attive.
  • Folder defaults (how they affect Chat)

    • Always available folders are included by default so Chat has consistent baseline reference material.
    • Explicit folders are only used when you select them.
  • Permissions

    • Folder settings and uploads are limited by folder permissions (for example, some folders may be read-only for non-owners).
  • Upload and processing

    • After you upload, documents may take some time to process before they become fully searchable and usable in Chat.

Using documents in Chat and Agents

Documents can be applied to conversations in two complementary ways:

  • Folder-based context (recommended for ongoing work)

    • In Chat, use the Folders menu in the composer to select which folders the assistant can search within.
    • This is best when you want the assistant to browse a curated library of documents for the current topic.
  • File attachments (best for “this file, right now”)

    • Attach a file directly to a message when you want the assistant to focus on that specific document.
  • Agents

    • Agents can come with pre-configured document folders, so selecting an agent can automatically set the document scope for your conversation.

Examples

  • Sales playbook folder

    • Upload your sales playbook, pricing notes, and objection handling so Chat can draft messaging grounded in your materials.
  • Customer research folder

    • Keep win/loss notes and interview summaries in a folder and ask Chat to synthesize themes and recommendations.
